Hello, I’m Kathleen McElwee, the founder, and designer of Curate Interiors. I launched Curate Interiors out of a deep passion for interior design. My love of art and design started as early as I can remember. As a child, I would find treasures like an interesting piece of wood, a beautiful rock, or something fun at a hardware or art store. My mind would kick into overdrive imagining all of the things I could create with it. I have always gotten the deepest sense of satisfaction from being a maker and designer. I feel my creativity in almost everything I do and everything I experience. When I look at the world I see beauty in everyday details.
I began my college career in interior design and decided to switch to fashion design…picturing myself living a glamorous life in New York City. I spent seven years as a textile designer and that provided me with a love of pattern, color, and texture that helps me push creative boundaries as an interior designer. After fashion design, I moved into graphic design and marketing. Along the way, I always had outlets for my creative drive. I am a metalsmith, painter, and lifelong admirer of art, and of course, always have done interior design along the way. All of these creative hobbies and interests drive my ability to look at each design project from a unique perspective. Although I’ve enjoyed my career path and have gained a multitude of experience that has resulted in a well-rounded designer, I have always ultimately wanted to get back into interior design. It is my passion and my gift. Creating people's dream spaces brings me fulfillment and purpose.
So here I am. Living my dream and helping others obtain theirs through inspired and unique interior design.
My inspiration:
Art, nature, people, and passion. I am inspired by nature every day and I love to bring touches of nature to all of my designs. Natural elements help any design style have a sense of balance. I am a lifelong lover of art and design in any form and they are a huge driver of my creativity. I love to explore what other people's imaginations can create. I find the creative process to be wondrous and if it’s my art or someone else’s, the passion to create is a driver in my inspirational force.
My goal:
I believe that everyone deserves a space that gives them joy every single day. I believe our spaces are a source of connection with the people we surround ourselves with. The design of those spaces directly contributes to that connection. I believe that your home tells a story about your life. I help you bring that story, that vision to reality. I believe that lives are enriched by good design that is authentically tailored to each individual. I help gently push my clients out of their comfort zone and offer a bold new perspective on how their space can feel.
